Hi, I am here to walk you through what I consider a good routine, this is some of the basics I truly believe you should do no matter what your skin type is or how old you are or where you are from. So, let's get into it.
Step 1
Cleanse your face, I prefer using a gel cleanser because it is not stripping to my super dry skin. However, it will be great for any skin type in my opinion. Some people might prefer just splashing their faces with some water, which is completely fine in the morning since you have not been outside so your skin has not been environmentally stressed due to pollution and so on. So, if you feel that washing your face in the morning is a bit too stripping for your skin, go ahead and just splash it with water. I especially recommend this if you are 30 or above or have really dry skin. I do have really dry skin however I am acne-prone, so I prefer washing it.
Step 2 (optional)
First essence, so you don´t need this step, however to me this is a great step, it is an extra hydrating step and it helps the products you use afterward penetrate deeper. I also feel like it overall does give the skin a glow.
Step 3 (optional)
Toner, so this step is to make the pH level on your skin normal again, when you wash your skin it does change the pH level of your skin, so if you don´t use a toner to for a low pH level cleanser, I do recommend to just always use a low pH cleanser even if you use a toner
Step 4 (optional)
Normal essence, so the difference of a normal essence and a first essence is that a first essence contains fermented indigents and it sinks into the skin a lot faster, while a normal essence is a bit thicker and normally has no fermented ingredients. To me a normal essence has been hydrating and calming, I like to use a normal essence with a short ingredient list.
Step 5 (optional)
Serums, in the morning I like using vitamin C and some hydrating serum. I especially like a vitamin c serum in the morning because it is proven to make my sunscreen more efficient.
Step 6 (optional)
Eye cream, so an eye cream is not necessary at all, since it just is an overpriced moisturizer, however, it is good if you have oily skin you might want something a bit heavier under your eye, without it being too much ofc, if you have dry skin you might want something a bit lighter under your eyes or if there is fragrance in your moisturizer you should get something fragrance free for under your eye since it is a sensitive area. But you can overall just use the moisturizer for your face under your eyes as well.
Step 7
Moisturizer picks a moisturizer that suits your skin type, if you have oily skin go for a gel type, which is pretty light in the texture. If you have dry skin go for a bit heavier one, if you have combination a recommend maybe using a gel in the places you are oily and a thicker one where your skin is drier. If you have normal skin, you are lucky you can pick whichever one you would like, however, if you are 30 + I would go for a bit thicker one. If you have very sensitive skin like me, you should avoid France and essential oils.
Step 8
So, this is the most important step for everyone, sunscreen! Remember sunscreen, I normally recommend using an SPF 50, but an SPF 30 would also be okay, but I would use an SPF 50. If you don´t like using sunscreen it just means you have not found the right one for your skin, so keep searching, I have a post about my favorites. Also, keep in mind sunscreen is the best anti-aging skincare you can get. Besides it also prevents a lot of other skin issues such a skin cancer, and it even helps on acne, because if you have acne the sun is for sure your enemy. So wear your sunscreen no matter your skin color or age.
