How to commit to a skincare routine

The number one thing I have noticed is that a lot of people have problems commenting to a skincare routine, and that is fine, it is normal to feel like that. But I am here to try to make you commit to a good routine since having a good routine is important no matter how perfect your skin may look, a good routine is still important. I have always been very committed to my skincare routine because my skin has not always been good and I must say it might have been a blessing in a disguise because now I know how to take care of my skin, I know that turning that product around to read the ingredient list is the most important thing you can do for your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin like me, or if you have acne-prone skin. Just because a product says it is for specific skin concerns it does not mean that it is 100% true, so turn and learn my friend. Now let´s get into how to get you committed a skincare routine.

1.     Find what your skin needs. First, you need to figure out which skin type you have, is it oily, dry, combination, or normal, do you have any specific skin concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation and so on, once you know this you will know which products you need to look out for. Solving these questions can help you find the motivation to do a routine because you might get rid of a long-time issue you have had with your skin; I mean I got rid of my acne.

2.     Do your product research, don´t just buy a product because your favorite YouTuber said it is amazing, they are most likely getting paid for saying that, and even if they are not your skin is not the same as their skin, so research the product, take a look at the ingredient list and, again as I said to turn and learn. Because knowing you use a product that truly does help your skin and your specific skin concerns is highly motivating,  

3.     Start with the basics. So, you don´t need to jump into a 10 step routine, just start with a double cleanser and then add a moisturizer and then use your SPF, and as time passes you can build onto that, take small steps. Overwhelming yourself from the beginning can be very demotivating,  

4.     Keep reminding yourself to do it. Saying you forgot about it and now you are too tired to do it is such an easy excuse, so don´t allow yourself to forget it, just keep reminding yourself to do it, your skin will be grateful if you remember doing it. Because the key to good skin is consistency.

5.     Stay organized. Keep all of your products at the same spot, so you make it easy for yourself, make it look inviting, so you feel like doing your routine,

6.     Make it relaxing. Consider your routine as your time a time where you treat yourself and your skin, see it as a nice trip to the spa where you take care of yourself, where you do something just for yourself. And if you find yourself getting bored with your routine it might be time to expand it, start using a mask, maybe add some serums, switch things up a bit.  

Surround yourself with skincare content. Follow accounts on youtube or Instagram or blogs like mine who share skincare content, this will inspire you to improve your routine and keep doing your routine. And last but not least remember you are doing your skin a favor by doing your routine, your skin is a part of you, and it should be treated nicely.
