Step 1
Balm or oil cleanser, so this step is to make sure your makeup and sunscreen is being washed off your face, the good part with oil and balm cleanser it will remove your eye makeup.
Step 2
Cleanser, here you just use the same cleanser you use in the morning as well, this step will make sure all of the makeup, sunscreen, and balm/oil cleanser is gone, this step is important since oil/balm cleanser does clog your pores. To me the double cleanse is really important because you need to make sure you have gotten all that dirt from the day off and all the sunscreen and makeup because you don´t want to go to sleep with that on, it clogs your pores and it might make them appear bigger than they really are. Also, double cleansing can help to clear your acne.
Step 3 (optional)
Chemical exfoliation, I do recommend you do this step since it helps a lot with evening out skin tone, and overall clears your skin, it helps a lot with acne because it exfoliates off all the dirt and sebum. But only do this 1-2 times a week, I personally only do it once a week since my skin is dry and sensitive. Please do not overdo this step to try to get fast results, because all it will do is to damage the skin barrier.
Step 3 (optional)
Face mask, so this step is for a day where you don´t exfoliate. There are several kinds of face masks and you should overall pick one that fits to what your skin needs, I really like a calming mask and a nourishing mask. I use a mas maybe 1-3 times a week, but you can use it however much you want, you can even use them every day if you want to, but that might get expensive, you can also just use them once a month or the day before you have to attend some special event.
Step 4 (optional)
Toner, so I like to use a toner to balance out my skins pH levels, and that is mainly why I use a toner, I also like to go for a toner with slightly brightening benefits to give me a natural glow and it will help lighten some dark spots of you have has some acne.
Step 5 (optional)
The first essence, I especially like this step for the night time because it gives that extra layer of hydration for my skin, and that is just what it needs to replenish itself during the night. However, it is not a necessary step, so if you don´t feel like you need it, then don´t use it and save your money for something else, since an essence can be kind of expensive. If you want to start using it, you can read my post about essences to truly figure out if you need it or really want to spend your money on trying on. however, I will add it does give the look of minimized pores and an overall glow.
Step 6 (optional)
Normal essence, so a normal essence is a bit different from a first essence and they do completely different things, I like my normal essence to have a simple ingredient list which and targets a specific skin concern, so I like my essence to be calming to it calms inflamed skin. You can read my post about the essence and figure out which essence you need or if you even need one, again it Is not an essential step, so you don´t really need one and they are pricy so make sure to do your research before you invest in one
Step 7 (optional)
Serums, so I like to use repairing and calming serum for this step, I also use niacinamide if I have any dark spots I want to disappear faster. I like to use a calming and repairing serum for the night so it can work overnight where my skin replenishes itself, so I just like to give it a helping hand.
Step 8 (optional)
Retinol/retina, so there is a lot of debate when you should start using this, I say you start when you feel it is right, I personally have started early because It does help to clear acne while it is effective for anti-aging as well since it does target fine lines and wrinkles, I don´t have any fine lines or wrinkles yet, but why not prevent it?
However be careful start with a low percentage, I personally started with a 0,2% and worked my way up to 0,5% and now I am on 1%, but only use a 1-2 times a week, I only use it 1 time a week since I have very sensitive skin, but if you don´t 2 times a week should be fine.
Step 9
Eye cream, so an eye cream is not necessary, however, I do enjoy using one in my nighttime routine since I use a really thick sleeping mask and it would not go well under my eyes. But other than that, if you don’t use a super thick night cream or sleeping mask, just use your normal moisturizer under your eye, it will essentially be the same.
Step 10
Moisturizer/night cream/sleeping mask. So I have tried them all, but for my dry skin a really thick sleeping mask worked the best for me, but whichever your choose it is fine, however, beware, you have to use a moisturizer before some sleeping masks, I really depend
on which one you have and the ingredients it contains. So be aware of that. Ofc you should choose one which targets your specific skin concerns.
