Not going to lie, this might be the worst skin type to have, I myself have dry skin and it is a battle on its own, and I will now tell you how to know if you have dry skin or not, if you don´t have dry skin you may be one of those lucky people with normal skin, or maybe you have combination skin, I also made a post talking about those so you can head over and read those.
Dry skin is not only something that can be caused genetically, but it can also be caused by something you have done wrong, your skin can go from being normal or even oily to being dry all of a sudden. First things first here is what dry skin can be caused by:
- Genetics
- Aging or hormonal changes
- Medications (some medications can cause your skin to get dry.
- Tanning in tanning beds
Here is what can make dry skin worse:
- Weather such as wind, cold or sun
- Indoor heating
- Long baths and showers
- Ingredients in soaps, cosmetics, and cleansers (I always go for fragrance-free and essential oil-free)
Dry skin basically means you most likely also have sensitive skin, so keep that in mind when you buy products for both your body and face, I always try to go fragrance-free and essential oil-free.
Here are a few tips to make it a bit easier for you to have dry skin.
- Take short showers and baths and only do it once daily.
- Use gentle soaps and cleansers, I recommend a fragrance-free gel cleanser with a low pH for your face and a fragrance-free creme body wash for your body
- After you shower, use a rich thick moisturizer for your face, I shower in the evening, so I use a sleeping mask, that really helped my dry skin out.
- Make sure it does not too warm inside and also try to keep it a bit humid you can use a humidifier.
If you have not taken well care of your dry skin, you may have:
- A dull, rough complexion
- Red patches (this is due to most likely also having sensitive skin)
- Your lines get visible early
- Your skin will get less elastic
- A positive one is that you probably have almost invisible pores.
