Description

As someone with really dry skin I struggle every winter with my skin, it gets so extremely dry, it even starts flaking off and leave nasty wounds. Also, especially my under-eye area would get super dry and it is not a good look. I tend to get super dry under the eyes because in general, I have dry eyes in the winter, due to the fact that I wear contact lenses, so my eyes start running and the salty water from my eyes would dry out my already dry under eyes. So, I had to find a way to fight the dryness. So, here are some tips I have come up with throughout the years I have been struggling with my super dry skin.

1.     Change Moisturizer

So this one is a big one, the moisturizer you have used during the summer spring and even fall will probably no longer be enough for your skin, swap it with an ointment or an oil-based moisturizer, if you struggle to find a moisturizer that is oil-based then note that a night cream is often oil-based and listen most of them you can use in the day time, so go for a night cream if you can an ointment.

2.     Remember sunscreen

No, sunscreen isn't just for summertime. Winter sun combined with snow glare, can still damage your skin. Try applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen to your face and your hands (if they're exposed) about 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply frequently if you stay outside a long time.

3.     Vaseline

This one will sound so weird but trust me it works. I normally in the put Vaseline under and around my eyes, that is the only thing that truly keeps them hydrated during the winter, no other cream has been able to keep them hydrated, before I started putting Vaseline under my eyes, I had to apply cream under my eyes several times a day. Yes you can also use an ointment under the eye, but I have not really been able to find an ointment that would be okay to put under my eyes, however, if I find one I will use that instead since it will have more benefits to it than Vaseline, but for now, I am happy just using Vaseline. Under the vaseline, I do use a repairing serum.

4.     Avoid wet socks and gloves

When are outside and it snows and rains and socks and gloves are bound to get wet but try to avoid using them while they are wet because it can irritate your skin and it will cause it to get itchy and extra dry so it will start cracking or even flare up eczema.

5.     Myth busted – drink water for your health, not for your skin.

You have probably heard this a million times, drink water to get clear skin, drink water so your skin looks glowy and hydrated, but listen that is not really true. Water is good for your overall health and "the skin of someone who is severely dehydrated will benefit from fluids. But the average person's skin does not reflect the amount of water being drunk.
