The winter is coming, and the winter is a struggle for people with dry skin, so what can you do to make the winter a bit easier for people like me with dry skin? Well after having had dry skin all of my life I have come up with some tips on what you can do to make the winter a bit easier.
1. Don´t take hot showers or baths, yes I know taking a hot shower or bath after being out in the cold is super tempting, but you do know if you have dry skin a hot shower/bath can make your skin even drier since it breaks down the lipid barriers in the skin, which decreases moisture. To avoid getting to dry take short lukewarm showers.
2. Moisturize!!! So, the way you moisturize in the winter is different from how you do in the summer, in the winter you have to use a heavier moisturizer, a nice thick heavy one.
3. Exfoliate, use a not too strong chemical exfoliator, and only do it 1 time a week since you don´t want to over-exfoliate because your skin will get dehydrated and that is the last thing you want to happen.
4. Apply that lip balm! Keep on reapplying that lip balm all day long, I would go for a healing lip balm to heal those cracks on your lips.
5. Use a humidifier. Getting moisture back into your home´s air will help prevent extremely dry skin.
When you are outside wear layers and gloves. Our hands are the most exposed body part when It Is cold, I for some reason have something with my blood, so if my hands get too cold I lose movement in them for a while, so I have always been good at wearing gloves, but wearing gloves will also prevent your hands from getting too cold and therefore super dry. Remember to cold air is dry and it will dry out your skin, that is why your skin is drier in the winter than in the summer, so take care and wear extra layers and gloves.
