Let´s talk about popping pimples and why you should not do it, I have seen lots of misconceptions when it comes to popping your pimples, some believe if you pop your pimple and add on some acne treatment it will go away faster. But now let me tell you what can happen if you pick your pimples or pop them or whatever you do to them. And also put down that blackhead extraction tool! It is not the answer! Now let me get into why you need to stop popping and picking at your pimples.
1. You can make the inflammation worse. When you want to pop that pimple it is normally because if the way it looks right? Now when you pop it you are going to make it look worse, it will look inflamed, besides all that pressing and pulling on the skin around your pimple, just damages the skin around it, causing redness and swelling, which will stay a lot longer than if you just let that pimple be! Now here is my advice to get rid of that habit, use a pimple sticker to cover your pimple it will remove your urge to touch that pimple, and it will also treat it, so it goes away faster, I personally use the ones from cosrx
2. You can cause nasty scabs. You know what? A scab Is much harder to cover than a pimple if you have ever popped a pimple you know this is true and you know it is almost impossible to cover. Again, I recommend you use the sticker I talked about, you can even put makeup on those, and then you hardly notice them.
3. You might leave behind scars. So, it is not that a pimple never should be popped, but I recommend seeing a professional about it, because they know exactly what to do, if you do it wrong it can cause permanent scarring, and that is the last thing someone wants.
4. Picking can cause discoloration. Maybe you have already noticed that if you have had a badly inflamed pimple it has left your skin discolored, it is called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and it comes when you pick at an inflamed pimple, now luckily this will go away again, but it can in some cases take up to 2 years. If you want to make it go away faster try using a vitamin c and niacinamide.
5. Picking can lead to infection. Dirty hands, dirty tools, and even just a nonsterile space like your bathroom at home can lead to an infection. When you pop your pimple, you are causing tearing at your skin leaving it open for bacteria.
6. The blackhead extraction tool. Now, this is a thing a lot of people use, and I personally would never use it, because Trying to extract the blackhead with a tool can cause mini tears and can push the clogged pore deeper into the skin, ultimately leading to a deeper, more inflamed pimple that can then leave scarring and pigmentation. Also, it can in largen and damage the pores on your nose, so please if you want something like this done, go see a professional, they know what they are doing, and everything will be completely sanitary.
Here is a little tip as to how you get rid of that picking habit, I also used to be a picker, but now I am not anymore, because I taught myself if I want to touch my face, I need to wash my hands first, and then when I go to wash my hands I take an extra look in the mirror and concludes it is not worth it. Also, the stickers I mentioned previously are a really great solution.
