Adult acne is very much a thing and it is even harder to treat than teen acne, if you are an adult and you have dealt with acne ever since you were a teen you have probably heard a million times that it will go away ones you become an adult, but then you became an adult but the acne is still there, well welcome to the world of adult acne. So, when you are an adult you want to automatically treat your skin with anti-aging things, but you also want to get rid of your acne. So, what do you do? Well, let me try to help you out.
If you choose anti-acne products, you’re likely concerned they can make your skin dry or flaky, which makes the signs of aging even worse. On the other hand, if you use products to ward off signs of aging, especially if they’re creamy or thick, the breakouts and clogged pores will likely get worse.
Then what do you do? The correct answer would be using a mix, use acne products that will not dry out your skin, and therefore create more visible fine lines, and yes, they do exist. These products should be formulated with gentle non-drying, and skin softening, yet still highly effective against acne. And the powerhouse anti-aging products you use must have fluid, lightweight textures without any pore-clogging ingredients.
The best way to do this is to use a chemical exfoliant that contains a BHA (salicylic acid) another product could be a treatment cream that contains benzoyl peroxide, I recommend 2,5% since this works well with a BHA to keep your acne away, but also not dry out your skin too much. You could also start using retinol, since this works for acne and wrinkles at the same time, but be careful with this, you need to build up your tolerance when it comes to retinol, so start with a low percentage and work your way up, also note that in the beginning, it might make your skin breakout a bit more than normal, but it is just the purging period, once that is over everything will be fine. I also recommend using niacinamide since it works so well for dark spots that are left behind by acne. Also, try a vitamin c, it works the same way as niacinamide and helps your sunscreen work even more efficient, and sunscreen after all is the best anti-aging product you can use, so keep reapplying it through the day, also sunscreen actually helps get rid of acne as well, since acne is technically an inflammation of the skin, and the sun can make the skin even more inflamed if you don´t protect your skin from it. Other than that just use the moisturizer which works the best for your skin, I have dry skin therefore I use a moisturizer for dry skin, if you have oily skin go ahead and use a gel moisturizer, but do use something a bit heavier for the night, since the skin works differently during the night.
Fear not there is always a way to fix your specific skin concern, so keep trying. Also note that no product is a miracle product, it needs time to work, it will take at least 1 month before you see results.
