We are getting closer and closer to the winter season, and winter is a bit extra rough on the skin no matter which skin type you have you have to take extra care of your skin in the winter because our skin acts differently in the winter. So, as the weather changes our skin condition changes as well. so I gathered a few tips for the winter which can be useful for you to use.
1. Remember to drink enough water. In the winter a lot of us does not drink as much water as we should, I am guilty of this as well, I try my very best to drink as much as I can, I normally try to get in 8 glasses a day. But the thing is in the winter you just don´t get as thirsty as you are in the summer, but the skin will suffer if you don´t drink your water, your skin will appear drier and less vibrant, my skin gets extremely dry in the winter and it sure does not help the case if I don´t drink enough water. So, try to drink as much as you can.
2. Choose a cleanser carefully. Many high street cleansers actually contain harsh chemicals that can be damaging rather than nourishing. Ingredients such as alcohol and any added fragrances won’t do any favors for dry, cracked skin, as they strip away natural oils. So, get a gentle gel or cream cleanser, I prefer gel cleanser, for no specific reason it is just a personal preference, I use a fragrance-free, low pH gel cleanser and it works great for my skin. Remember cleansing should not be stripping to your skin no matter which skin type you have.
3. Exfoliate your skin. I recommend exfoliating your skin 1 time a week, but I will point out it is important to find an exfoliator that works for your skin, some can be very irritating, I have tried out several exfoliators and I am still to find one I like, my skin is very sensitive and dry so it does not tolerate a lot. But in the winter, it would be extra good to exfoliate your skin, in order to get rid of the dead skin cells.
4. Keep your showers short. I know how tempting to reach for that dial and turn up the heat and have a long, hot shower or a bath when it’s cold outside. However, hot showers and long baths are a big no. Not only will excessively hot water dehydrate you, but it will also strip away those necessary oils from your body. If you come out of the shower and your skin is irritatingly red and itchy, it’s a sign that you’ve overdone it. All is not lost though. We’ve got you covered in the next step.
5. Protect yourself from the weather. Winter is without any shadow of a doubt a lot harsher for your skin than the summer is. During the winter most of us do like to keep a lip balm in our bag or pocket, which is a great thing to do. But you also need to remember those glows and that scarf, the harsh cold wind is not good for you, so protect your skin.
6. Sunscreen! Please do wear your sunscreen in the winter as well, sunscreen is not only for the summer, it is for all year around. The sun is still there in the winter, the UV-rays are there even when it is cloudy, cold, and windy, so protect your skin in the winter as well as you do in the summer.
